Midwest Dance Mechanix has an award winning competition team that we call our "Competition Company". Our Company dancers are a select group of dancers that audition in the summer and train throughout the year in a variety of dance styles. Company dancers attend various conventions, competitions & master classes throughout the year to further their dance education and experience a wide variety of teachers, styles and stage experiences.
GOAL OF THE COMPETITION COMPANY:
Our goal for MDM Company members is not only to hone their technique and understanding of the terminology associated with the art of dance, but to instill vital life skills such as hard work, determination, teamwork and how to work well with others. These lessons are integrated into all that we do, both in the classroom and on the stage. Providing opportunities for dancers to discover, reach and exceed their potential is what being a part of MDM Company is all about. Learning how to handle successes and failures, defining what it takes to be successful both mentally and physically, and growing in technique and performance quality are our primary goals for each Company dancer. While the competitions we attend focus on short term rankings, our focus on long-term growth goals and important life skills ensures that dancers leave MDM Company with not only the skills to be successful in the dance world, but in any endeavor that they choose to pursue. That’s the first place award we desire for each dancer!
age divisions for competition company:
Our Company is split into dance teams consisting of Mini (ages 6-8), Junior (ages 9-10), Pre-Teen (ages 11-12), Teen (ages 13-15) and Senior (ages 16-18).
EXPECTATIONS OF competition company MEMBERS:
The Competition Company is NOT a recreational program. Membership in the MDM Company is a wonderful opportunity as well as a serious commitment. We ask both dancer & parents to consider many factors including time commitment, work ethic, and financial obligations when determining whether or not it is a good fit for a dancer. In addition to the required weekly classes and rehearsals, we also ask our Company dancers to commit to hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude both for themselves and for their fellow dancers and instructors.classes.
WEEKLY CLASS REQUIREMENTS:
Dancers aged 11 & younger are required to attend one ballet class and one jazz class per week. Dancers aged 12 - 14 are required to take two ballet classes and one jazz class per week. Dancers aged 15 and above are required to take two ballet classes and two jazz classes per week. All other classes are optional unless the dancer is interested in competing in that style.
HOW IS PLACEMENT ON THE COMPANY DETERMINED:
Auditions generally take place in May and placement on MDM Company is based on ability and performance as determined by staff and choreographers. Placement in various dances is based on a dancers ability and performance experience as determined by the MDM staff and choreographers, as well as parental preferences regarding the total number of dances the are comfortable with financially.
To ensure the success of the competition year, dancers are expected to adhere to the stated criteria of MDM Dance Company contract.
