 CLASS LEVEL PLACEMENT

Student placement in classes is at the discretion of the MDM teaching staff.  Midwest Dance Mechanix has a set curriculum for our varying class levels to ensure comprehensive dance training. Some levels are more difficult for students than others and it is not uncommon for a student to remain in a given level for 1 - 2 years. We take time to thoughtfully consider each student as we determine class placement. We weigh many factors such as age, technical ability, experience, learning style, as well as emotional and physical maturity when determining the best possible fit for every dancer. We aim to group like students together for optimal learning and progress.

New Student Placement:  If you are interested in trying a class at MDM, please CLICK HERE for more information.  Our instructors will make an appropriate class level placement based on his/her observation during the trial class.

MDM's class levels include an established curriculum within each level that must be mastered before moving to the next level. This curriculum includes vocabulary, positions, concepts, and foundational technique for each dance step. Mastering the skills within each curriculum level ensures confidence and mastery for our dancers as they move from one level to the next.

Our instructors evaluate all dancers every 6 months at the end of the Fall and Spring enrollment sessions. If a dancer has mastered the skills required for a class level, that students skill level will be advanced to the next level within our software system. If your student receives a class level promotion, your class enrollment options will show the promotion online when you enroll.  Due to the administrative time, we will not make individual communication with parents regarding class level promotions.  Rather, parents will be able to view their students levels online through their Parent Portal.  Making sure students are placed in skill and age level appropriate classes is a task we take very seriously.  Please refrain from asking instructors about class level promotions. If you have a question about your dancers progress, please request an appointment by CLICKING HERE.

Regular attendance at all classes is necessary in order to maintain progress. Attendance is a strong consideration when placing students in classes and performances. If a student is more than 15 minutes late to a class, the student will not be allowed to participate. The student is responsible for scheduling and attending a make-up class so they do not fall behind. If a student misses more than four classes in a row without notifying the office, they will be un-enrolled from the class. Since a spot was held for the student, they will be liable for tuition through the end of the month in which they were un-enrolled.

Students who will be missing class need to call the MDM office at 316-337-5299 or email Please DO NOT contact any teachers directly via their personal phone or email.  Our office staff will ensure that each instructor is notified of your dancers absence.
